Static registers start going out of date the moment they’re saved
Most asbestos registers are standalone documents, updated manually and saved wherever they were last edited: local drives, shared folders, email inboxes. With no single source of truth, it's hard to know which version is current, or which one a contractor was sent. Every difference between what's in the register and what's on site is a risk to both safety and compliance.
Every update relies on someone remembering
Each re‑inspection, removal or new finding means editing the register, re‑issuing it and replacing old copies. If any step is missed, the register quietly falls behind.

Access and Compliance
Making the register accessible is part of the duty
In Australia, the model WHS Regulations require the register to be readily accessible to workers and anyone carrying out work at the site, and a copy to be given to anyone whose work risks exposure to airborne asbestos. Safe Work Australia's guidance recognises storing the register online, linked by a web address or QR code, as an option that gives multiple people access to a single, electronic version on or off site.

In New Zealand? Octfolio also supports asbestos management under the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
