Digital Asbestos Register

One of the key features of the OCTFOLIO Hazardous Material Information Management Software is the digital asbestos register. Too often clients pay thousands of dollars for an asbestos inspection, and then upon completion of the asbestos inspection, the legal asbestos register and accompanying asbestos management plan is presented as an Adobe PDF file. Or even worse, the asbestos register is presented as a printed document. These documents often get thrown on the shelf somewhere or lost in a file server never to be seen again.


What most building owners or managers do not realise is that this expensive exercise is simply the beginning of their asbestos management journey because the asbestos register is a legal document and should be managed in the same way as any other legal document for the company.


In 2012, the national harmonisation of workplace health and safety legislation in Australia saw many changes implemented to the asbestos regulations many of which were also recently legislated in New Zealand. As a result of these changes, it is more important than ever for building owners and managers to clearly understand how the legislation works – especially considering the large penalties for not updating the register.
